Board of Pensions
The Board of Pensions serves those who serve in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). As an ELCA churchwide unit, it provides health, retirement, disability and survivor benefits and related services for nearly 50,000 pastors, rostered laypersons and lay employees and their families, and nearly 11,000 congregations and other ELCA sponsoring organizations. The Board of Pensions is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A board of 19 trustees governs the administration of an approximate $6 billion portfolio. The President, John G. Kapanke, guides the mission, vision and values with the help of nearly 200 employees who contribute a variety of professional skills and expertise needed to support those they serve for a lifetime.
