Young Women’s Scholarship Program: $5,000
The FCC sends young women to secondary schooling at Maigaro (first three years) and in Bangui, the capital (last three years). Maigaro students who have continued in Bangui have done so well that the Bangui school no longer requires FCC scholarship women to take the entrance exam. This program helps Lutheran women develop their potential to serve and lead in the church and the country.
Scholarship funds cover the cost of tuition, books, room and board for women to access education. A simple gift to the scholarship program (not to a specific person*) will change the life of a young woman who will impact her own family.
President Golike, while visiting our synod in February 2010, was quoted as saying, “The most important gift we can offer is education. When our young women receive the chance to study, our country grows stronger. I see this in my own daughters.”
Speakers are available to talk with your congregation about this opportunity to change lives.
*It is our practice to work closely with our companion synod to administer scholarship funds for equitable distribution and financial accountability. The ELCA, in partnership with local missionaries, oversees the administration of these dollars.
