Justice here and now headerYou are invited to join the Justice Network!

Justice Network "Fragile" globeThis electronic community of people and congregations striving to do justice meets twice a year to encourage one another and network ideas, knowledge and action.  For information on the next Justice Network Table email, justice@gulfcoastsynod.org or check the synod calendar (left column).

The purpose of this network is to change systems and remove barriers to make room at the table for everyone.

Operating Principles:

The Justice Team draws on the Chaordic organizational model — functioning with just enough order to manage the chaos while at the same time using recognizable patterns to do justice in our synod (more at http://www.chaordic.org). We exist to:

  • Respect, protect and encourage individual, congregational, cultural and societal diversity.
  • Self organize to pursue any faithful practice in changing the system towards justice.
  • Resolve conflict cooperatively without emotional, social, ecological or physical violence.
  • Distribute power so that decisions are made by consensus by those that are being affected by the decision.
  • Freely and fully exchange information to strengthen the work of justice in our world.

Our Justice Practices:  pray, listen, learn, and act!

Our Justice Strategies: Cultural Immersion, Service Learning, Accompaniment, Community Organizing and Advocacy as effective ways for congregations to re-root in their neighborhoods and in our world.

Our Justice Priorities:  This network has multi-issue foci and is committed to inter-generational justice.  The Justice Network Core Team, Bishop’s staff and Synod Council will set priorities that align with the synod's vision, maximize impact and clarify commitment.  Congregations and individuals are encouraged to respond to their own sense of call and to seek support from the Justice Network and Synod Staff.

The following two categories will guide us in thinking about how we will engage in the many opportunities we have for doing justice:

Sponsored —These works of justice can expect staff time and synod funding.

Endorsed — These works of justice can expect synod-wide communication and staff encouragement.

But let justice roll down like water, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
