Mission Interpreters ...Mission Interpreters are members of ELCA congregations who have made a commitment to tell the story of the ELCA and the synod in their congregations. As a Mission Interpreter, you have been called to a ministry of connection - connecting your congregation to the ministry and mission of our wider church.
Here’s how it worksYou invite one person each month to come and tell about their ministry, a ministry that your congregation is already supporting. This person will come for free and do a 3-5 Temple Talk at your worship service. You ask them to talk about: 1. Why they are doing what they are doing. 2. How their ministry has impacted a life, or lives. 3. What they need.
Some of these folks may also preach or lead an adult, youth, or children’s Sunday school class. A list of some of these ministries and their spokespersons is available in the 2006 Mission Interpreter Newsletter. They are ministries you will recognize, like, Texas Lutheran University, Peru, Central African Republic, Lutherhill Camping, and so on.
Prior to your visitor’s arrival, you’ll put an article about that ministry in your newsletter. All the articles are available in the Mission Interpreter Newsletter. Some congregations take a loose change offering (what some congregations call a Noisy Offering) for the ministry on that Sunday.
Who ya gonna call?
If you’re already a Mission Interpreter, thank you for your willingness to serve! Your ministry will strengthen the relationship in our church and grow the opportunities for all of us to be in mission.
