Resolution One ...

A Resolution for the Development of an African Descent Strategy

 

WHEREAS the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod affirms the ongoing goal of the ELCA to achieve membership of at least 10 percent by people of color and/or primary language other than English, and

 

WHEREAS we further affirm the vision of our church to be truly welcoming of all people, regardless of race or ethnicity, and

 

WHERAS we affirm ongoing ministry with people of color and/or primary language other than English:

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Office of Bishop of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod, the Mission Director, the Synod Council and an African Descent Strategy Team partner together and actively engage in developing and implementing a strategy for ministry with persons of African Descent.

The African American/African Descent Strategy Team will be responsible for implementation in partnership with Mission Director, Pastor Rob Moore.

 

3.   How does this resolution enhance and forward the mission of the church and our synod?

The goal of this resolution is to enhance the Lutheran experience by intentionally exploring and affirming cultural diversity in our worship, congregational life and developing opportunities for vibrant participation, in membership, leadership and stewardship. In addition, this is a response to Resolution #8, adopted at the 2005 Synod Assembly.
